I am just getting back into horse back ridding and my wife just got her 1st horse. She is now trying to decide on a saddle… She likes the idea of an Australian Saddle (“hold you in”). I have never used one. Can anyone offer the pros/cons… Thanks!

I have had one. You want to buy them slightly larger than your western size saddle. The Aussies are measured just like an English saddle from the front right rivet to the center of the cantle - a the back. If you ride in a 16" western then you will want to get a 17" or 18" Australian. The 18" will give you more room on a long trail. Also you will need to learn how to ride in one of them. For trotting and galloping you stand in the stirrups just barely off the seat. Lts to find out about the Aussie, eh?
